Most buildings are well constructed and maintained to be durable, but they are not designed to last indefinitely. Time, weather, accidental damage, modifications, and vacancy all contribute to the deterioration of buildings, so that eventually they either need repair or are no longer safe to use.
Dudley Williams and Associates has provided engineering services to assess the condition of existing buildings, recommended testing to determine material strengths, performed analysis to determine the capacity of the structure for additional loads, developed details for repair of a variety of building materials, and evaluated the safety of buildings after damage from vehicle accidents and other unexpected events. We have also worked on renovation projects to upgrade a building for a new use or updated loading criteria in the current building codes, such as a change in occupancy or seismic retrofit.
We understand the value of reusing existing buildings when the repairs and construction of supplemental framing is reasonably economical. However, our first priority is the safety of the building occupants and the ability of the structure to perform well.
