Structural engineering for buildings is a creative process which allows the architectural vision to take shape. As designers, we want the structure to be economical and efficient while also being durable, functional, and safe. A structural system is chosen from a variety of materials, including steel, concrete, masonry, wood and others, to fit the desired building appearance and layout and to support the expected loads from occupants, snow, wind, and earthquake forces.
We work with other members of the design team to incorporate the structural systems with the aesthetic, mechanical, and electrical requirements of the building, starting from the early conceptual ideas through completion of the constructed project.
